Sigur Center Grants and Fellowships
The Sigur Center Grants and Fellowships are comprised of summer grants for B.A., M.A., P.hD students, and faculty who wish to study an Asian language or participate in Asian field research.
Gitter Fellowship for Advanced Chinese Language Study
The Gitter Fellowship supports a graduate student embarking an academic year (9 months) of intensive, immersive Chinese language instruction in China, or in Taiwan (under certain conditions). The fellowship stipend is $25,000 meant to support reasonable tuition and living expenses while the graduate student is studying in the People’s Republic of China (PRC) or in Taiwan.
Graduate Student Associate
The Sigur Center provides graduate students (M.A. or Ph.D.) in an Asia-related topic up to $1000 in reimbursement for research and conference travel expenses. Preference will be given to students with a strong background in Asian studies and concrete plans for conducting and/or presenting research during this academic year.
Uyghur Studies Summer Fellowship
The Sigur Center provides summer fellowships for George Washington University graduate students (M.A. or Ph.D.) conducting research on the history, culture, or arts of the Uyghur region and diaspora. These awards provide funding for travel, living, research, or tuition expenses. Preference will be given to students with a prior record of research and study on Uyghur issues.
