Graduate Student Associate Program

The application for the Sigur Center’s Graduate Students Associate (GSA) program for Academic Year 2025-2026 is now CLOSED.

The Sigur Center seeks three graduate student associates for the 2025–26 academic year! Graduate student associates (GSAs) must be pursuing a master’s or doctorate in an Asia-related topic in any discipline. Successful applicants will receive up to $1000 in reimbursement for research and conference travel expenses that are made within the 2025-26 academic year (i.e., by August 15, 2026). GSAs will also have access to a shared desk in the Sigur Center for the duration of their affiliation. Preference will be given to students with a strong background in Asian studies and concrete plans for conducting and/or presenting research during this academic year.

To apply, please submit a description (1-3 pages) of your proposed project. Please also indicate and describe in detail whether you already have made research and/or conference travel plans, or if not, how you plan to conduct research and/or conference travel. Applications must include a draft budget and list other support that the applicant has received or is currently seeking.

Eligibility:

  • A graduate student at GW (any discipline)
  • Strong background in Asian studies
  • Planning to conduct Asia-related research and/or present it at a conference

  • Research proposal (1–3 pages)
  • A proposed budget detailing how the fellowship will be used
  • Transcript(s)
  • A resume/CV
  • (For master’s students:) 1 letter of recommendation

Recommenders must send their letters to gsigur@gwu.edu. Letters of recommendation must be received by the application due date. Applicants are responsible for ensuring their recommenders submit their letters on time.
